Family Day Highlights

For more than a decade, CASA Family Day has encouraged parental engagement across America. Through the years, Family Day has grown from a grassroots initiative into a national celebration supported by PTAs, YMCAs, faith-based groups, substance abuse prevention coalitions, government officials, corporate Sponsors and most importantly moms and dads!

 

2001– The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse launches Family Day! The first Presidential Family Day Proclamation is issued by George W. Bush.

2002– The Coca-Cola Company becomes Family Day’s first national corporate Sponsor.

2005– Niagara Falls and the Empire State Building light up in red and blue in honor of Family Day.

2007– For the first time, all 50 Governors proclaim and support Family Day.

2009– Stouffer’s becomes Family Day’s first Title Sponsor. In addition, more than 1,000 cities and counties proclaim Family Day, and 10 Major League Baseball teams celebrate and promote the day.

2010– 23 First Spouses serve as Honorary Chairs of Family Day.

2011– Most First Spouses supported Family Day with 26 serving as Honorary Chairs, the most to date! Also, ten Major League Baseball teams celebrated and promoted Family Day and seven landmarks lit up red and blue for Family Day.  

2012– The First Spouses in 33 states served as Honorary Chairs of Family Day and 14 Major League Baseball teams celebrated Family Day. Family Day Partners included the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters and Così Restaurants.

2013–30 First Spouses served as Honorary Chairs of Family Day and six hosted Family Day events. Four parent bloggers, sponsors such as The Coca-Cola Company, and Partners such as The World Famous Harlem Globetrotters helped promote Family Day via social media.

2014–26 First Spouses served as Honorary Chairs of Family Day and five hosted Family Day events. Presenting Sponsor, The Coca-Cola Company, partnered with Chick-fil-A restaurants to host Family Day events at three restaurants within the Los Angeles area.

2015–25 First Spouses served as Honorary Chairs of Family Day and three hosted Family Day events. The Governor of North Carolina also hosted a Family Day event. Presenting Sponsor, The Coca-Cola Company, partnered with Waffle House® Restaurants, who helped promote Family Day in their 1,800 restaurants.

2016–20 First Spouses served as Honorary Chairs of Family Day and seven hosted Family Day events. Presenting Sponsor, The Coca-Cola Company, partnered with Waffle House® Restaurants and Krystal to help us promote our #myfamilyselfie campaign.
